Welcome to Battery Creek High School's
Health Science Technology Program
The purpose of a Health Science Technology program on the high school level is to expose students to basic health care information which will prepare them with the needed foundation to pursue a career in the world of health care. Students are exposed to a variety of topics from the history of health care to hands on certified nursing assistant skills.
Courses available within Battery Creek High School's HST program are: Medical Terminology, Health Science 1, Health Science 2, Health Science 3, Sports Medicine 1, and Sports Medicine 2. With the completion of high school students are qualified to be "State Completer" if they successfully pass four of the available six courses. These students receive a lavender cord to wear with their graduation gown, and are eligible to sit for the Health Science National Assessment.
The Health Science National Assessment, evaluates student knowledge of State Standards for all of the HST courses, anatomy and physiology, as well as biology. The Assessment is a 100 multiple choice question computer based test. A passing score is considered to be a 70 or higher. A student's performance on the National Assessment does not affect his or her GPA, class standing, or class average in any way. Those who do pass will receive a certificate of completion, which always looks favorable on a college application or resume.
